The bridge traverses the tidal inlets and streets of Hamburg’s historic complex of warehouses called ‘Speicherstadt’. The individual bridge sections have spans of 15 to 60 m; the total length of the bridge exceeds 600 m. The bridge sections are steel structures of various designs such as single bay lattice girder bridges, arch truss bridges and one cable stayed bridge. All bridges have identical steel sections and colour of paint finish, identical timber-planked walkways above high water level and identical railings. Particular attention was paid to the design of the wooden handrail. Its width and shape invite the user to rest on it or let the hand run along the rail.
