The KAFD Butterfly Dome is one of the public attractors in the new King Abdulla Financial District in Riad/Saudi Arabia. The project will house a tropical rain forest inhabited by butterflies. The Butterfly House has the shape of a sphere that is cut at two thirds of if its height. The layout of the structure consists of quadrilateral cells forming an orthogonal grid structure. The exterior skin is formed by planar quad double glazing elements.

The primary structure is formed by Rectangular Hollow Sections (RHS) providing direct support to the glazing units. The members are fully fixed at their node points in order to form a shell type structure.
