To protect the remains of the crematorium of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, a protective shelter was erected in the form of a translucent envelope structure with a homogeneous surface. The roof was designed and built as a membrane structure stabilised by a partial vacuum. The roof support structure consists of steel lattice girders fabricated from standard rectangular box sections. This primary support structure is approximately 1.3 m high in the roof area and approx. 1.15 m high in the wall area.
