University of Applied Sciences Neu-Ulm

For the 2nd construction phase of the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences, Werner Sobek was responsible for the structural engineering of a building with offices, seminar rooms and laboratories. It is divided into three upper floors and a basement. The building measures approx. 80 m × 25 m in plan. The height above ground is about 12 m. The supporting structure consists primarily of reinforced concrete walls and columns and reinforced concrete flat ceilings.

Column-Free Entrance and Foyer Area

A special feature is the column-free entrance and foyer area. Here, the floors above were suspended back by means of diagonals. Above the seminar rooms, the columns were supported on reinforced concrete beams. This meant that the seminar rooms themselves could remain column-free, which at the same time offers the greatest possible flexibility in the use of the floor plan.
