State Library Berlin

For the new construction of the central reading room of the Berlin State Library, Werner Sobek was commissioned with the structural engineering and facade planning. The new, cuboid building in the inner courtyard of the state library is wrapped in a multi-layered glass facade.

Translucency of Glass and Textile

For logistical reasons, the supporting structure was designed using prefabricated concrete elements, which are joined using a new type of joining technology via specially developed built-in components. The double-shell glass façade of the outer façade is connected to the shell via bracket-like steel swords. The interior façade is formed by a translucent textile fabric.
