In the course of the redesign of Effnerplatz in Munich, the sculpture “Mae West” was created by the American artist Rita McBride. The artwork has the shape of a hyperboloid and consists of a double structure made of carbon fibre tubes.

The sculpture has a total height of 52 m, a diameter of 32 m at the base and 19.5 m at the top. The diameter in the “waist” area is only about 7.5 m.

Werner Sobek was responsible for the structural engineering as well as the object planning for civil engineering structures for the art project.
