DAM Pavilion

The Berlin architectural firm Barkow/Leibinger designed a pavilion for the German Architecture Museum DAM in Frankfurt in 2008. Werner Sobek was commissioned with the structural engineering and sustainability consulting for this beautiful project.

With an area of 270 m² and approx. 900 m², the pavillon offers space for up to 200 people. An auditorium and a café are integrated. The surface of the pavilion is biaxially curved and consists of transparent ETFE film. The steel supporting structure can be completely dismantled.

Climate Concept Without Technical Aids

The climate concept was developed by Werner Sobek Green Technologies based on analyses of the climate, shading and irradiation. The shading is based on the irradiation levels on the surface. The natural ventilation is controlled by positioning the openings to optimise the flow. Technical aids can thus be dispensed with.
