A new high-rise office building is being constructed on a triangular site at the corner of Wallstraße and Steinhauerdamm in Hamburg’s Hohenfelde quarter. Featuring two underground storeys and 12 aboveground floors with a set-back, penthouse-style level on top, the development reaches a height of approximately 50 m above ground level. The structure’s Z-shaped, curvilinear ground plan was designed to suit the triangular plot of land and create two ‘flanks’ that run parallel to the streets which border the site. External solar protection measures and opaque areas of the facade reduce the incidence of solar radiation and provide a high level of thermal insulation during the summer months. At the same time, the façade systems also meet increased sound insulation requirements. The building is heated by Hamburg’s district heating network. A lighting control system complete with daylight and occupancy sensors is used to minimise the amount of energy required to power the artificial lighting within the development.
