The new HUGO BOSS AG office building for 350 members of staff on the HUGO BOSS Campus in Metzingen, Germany, consists of a three-storey structure with a gross floor area of 9,300 m² including an underground car park. In addition to usual planning requirements, an economic solution was sought with regard to construction and running costs as well as the energy efficient operation of the building services equipment.
Extremely ambitious demands were placed on the building vis-a-vis sustainability and energy efficiency to achieve gold certificate standard under the certification scheme run by the German Sustainable Building Council DGNB. Werner Sobek developed the energy concept and carried out the entire planning for the building services equipment and construction supervision, which included investigating a variety power supply systems.
The energy concept gave absolute priority to the sparing use of resources, energy efficiency and the economic supply of power. Triple insulating glazing in conjunction with external sunshading and an extremely dense building envelope, which exceeds the targets laid out in the German Energy Savings Act (EnEV) of 2009 by 25 %, guarantee significantly lower energy requirements.
