The highrise ensemble of the Shanghai International Financial Center consists of three towers — 180, 200, and 230 m of height. The three towers are connected to each other by a three-storey bridge construction at a height of 40 m. Every tower has two building cores, which run the entire length of the building. The floor plans of the storeys differ enormously from each other. The building cores are largely not connected with each other as the ceilings do not run continuously in some of the storeys – a challenging task for the structural engineers. The highrise ensemble is set on an underground pedestal building which includes a four-storey basement building.
