The reception building planned for the company Schmalz by Werner Sobek in cooperation with the architects HaasCookZemmrich is located at the company’s headquarters in Glatten. When completed the building will provide new office jobs, a generously dimensioned conference area, exhibition and customer areas as well as a new staff restaurant.
To date, the site has been an undeveloped gap between an old historical building and the production hall. As a consequence, the design for the new reception building is charged with fulfilling the task of creating a structure that blends in harmoniously with the existing buildings.
The height of the new building carries forward the existing lines and their strict structural characteristic. Liberating the structure above the adjacent joints ensures a respectful distance is maintained to the neighbouring buildings.
A distinguishing feature of the new building is the particularly efficient energy concept. The building is cooled using water drawn from the river Glatt; a ventilation system with an integrated heat recovery unit ensures a constantly pleasant climate inside the building. The new building is connected to the local district heating system generated by the company’s own heating plant; a photovoltaic system is installed on the roof.
WSGreenTechnologies planned the entire building services technology and the photovoltaic system. To optimize the energy and daylight concepts during the planning phase WSGreenTechnologies conducted, amongst others, a daylight simulation and a thermal simulation.
