AEB’s new administrative headquarters are located on the site of the former Hansa Area in the Möhringen district of Stuttgart. The entire building is organised around a central, light-filled atrium that serves as a prestigious reception and circulation space. An efficient, flexible building structure and a sustainable, innovative energy concept were both implemented as part of the project.

The keystone of the project’s inventive energy concept is the idea of using the building’s sprinkler tank as a heat and cold storage system. The tank’s thermal mass is employed in combination with a water-to-water heat pump to meet the building’s base load thermal requirements. Peak load demands are met via both a gas-fired condensing boiler and a vapour compression refrigeration system.
