At the beginning of September 2016, Dubai’s new opera house opened its gate to the public. The new Opera House is located in downtown Dubai, close to the Burj Khalifa Tower. The building is situated on the Burj Khalifa lake and has a height of 44 m. The ground floor plan of the building is based on an traditional sailing vessel called “Dhow”.

Werner Sobek was in charge of engineering the facades and the roof; the latter is quite complex because of the shape of the building. The aim was to realize flush glass without curves. The roof form was to be solved by means of standing seam roof, according to the completely seamless fitting request of the architect. The facade planning includes all exterior facades, the canopy and the large sliding doors as well as the inner facade in the so called sky restaurant.
