The new building of the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology is to be home to a centre dedicated to developing security concepts for IT environments. The building is located in the Rheinstraße in Darmstadt on the east side of an existing Fraunhofer Institute building. The visible part of the building above the ground consists of a one storey plinth building boasting a floor space measuring approx. 70 x 21 m, a recessed mezzanine and five upper storeys. The basement storey houses storage rooms and an underground car park. On the first floor, there are publicly accessible areas, with research and office areas in the storeys above. The plinth building is enclosed by a glazed transparent envelope. The storeys 2-6 have a timber-aluminium ribbon window facade. The opaque sections between the ribbon windows are clad with a folded aluminium fascia.
