The overall length of new bridge in Reinbek is 99 m. It is designed as a pedestrian bridge, which cyclists are also to be allowed to use. It is planned to have a total width of 3.50 m to safely accommodate two cyclists riding in opposite directions. For design and economic reasons it is planned to build a superstructure with two main supports, which are to be set back into the underside of the superstructure. Decks made of GFRB are placed between the main supports. These not only facilitate a very light and quickly erected construction, but they also offer total resistance to corrosion, minimum maintenance costs and high levels of strength. This was one of the first bridge-building projects in Germany that is taking advantage of this innovative combination of materials.
